As a CSA Design Manager at AWS, you will lead designs for AWS DCs in our Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) geography and impact other projects around the world. Key job responsibilities
- Develop & maintain Architectural Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications
- CSA Design lead on Data Centre projects with the following duties:
o Prepare conceptual site master plan designs based on information available from the due diligence site assessments
o Establish capital project design budgets for existing region and new region deployment.
o Collaborating with AWS finance teams to prepare funding applications and secure funding
o Develop design and permitting schedule for the project based on AWS standard design periods and local permitting requirements
o Partnering and communicating with internal customers to establish project scope, schedule and deliverables
o Working in partnership with AWS Engineering leads to schedule project engineering resources and Create, review and release RFPs for engagement of external design vendor, including review bids and make recommendations
- As CSA Design lead on Data Centre projects will Manage our external design consultants through the design and construction process ensuring high standards of deliverables complete on schedule.
o Co-ordinate and manage the input of internal structural, architectural and civil engineers during design and at design deliverable review
o Co-ordinate and manage the input of permitting lead
o Coordinate with internal and external Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Fire and Cabling design engineers;
o Influence and manage deviations to the AWS reference design based on localisation and site specific and internal customer needs
o Creating and tracking metrics related to cost, quality and duration of design
o Collecting data from operations, construction and commissioning teams as designs are implemented.
o Create/maintain project documentation before, during, and after construction;
o Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions during design and during the construction to comply with local regulations and reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan, manage, and deliver civil and infrastructure projects from design through to completion.
- Define project scope, budgets, schedules, and technical specifications, ensuring delivery in line with agreed plans.
- Lead and manage internal engineering teams as well as external contractors and service providers.
- Ensure all works comply with health, safety, environmental, and engineering standards.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across operations, maintenance, procurement, and quality functions to ensure seamless delivery.
- Monitor and report on project performance (cost, schedule, quality) to senior management.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying efficiencies, optimising processes, and applying engineering best practices.
- Support sustainability objectives and environmentally responsible project delivery.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience managing large-scale civil or infrastructure projects from concept to handover.
- Strong background in contract management and supplier/contractor coordination.
- Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Experience managing significant project budgets and capital investments.
- Solid understanding of relevant engineering codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks.
Desirable / Advantageous
- Experience with infrastructure, utilities, or industrial construction projects.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices such as carbon reduction and resource efficiency.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement and lean project methodologies.

About The Role
Our division provides Civil and Structural expertise across power generation and HV transmission including power plants, HV substation / HVDC Interconnector converter station, and HV cable projects. Due to continued growth, we are looking for Principal Structural Engineer with experience of engineering design to join our Civil and Structural Team in Ireland. The role will span a diverse portfolio of work and there will be opportunities for advancement within the team.
The Selected Candidate Will Carry Out Design Work On Power Plants, HV Substation/ HVDC Interconnector Converter Station, And HV Cable Projects, Fulfilling Tasks Including
- Project Management.
- Proposal Writing.
- Scheme Costings.
- Front End Engineering Design (FEED).
- Preparation of drawings for use in planning applications and tender packages.
- Detailed Civil/Structural Design.
- Design Coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
- Preparation of Specifications.
- Condition and Structural Assessment of existing structures to determine suitability for reuse.
Requirements
- Technical Expertise:
- Advanced Structural Engineering Knowledge: The candidate should have a deep understanding of structural engineering principles, including load-bearing capacity, material properties, and design codes (e.g., Eurocodes, ASCE).
- Proficiency in Structural Analysis Software: Familiarity with tools such as SAP2000, ETABS, or similar software is essential for modeling and analyzing complex structures.
- Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM): Knowledge of BIM technologies and their application to improve project visualization, coordination, and execution.
- Project Management Skills:
- Project Leadership: The successful candidate must be capable of managing structural engineering projects independently. This includes overseeing project timelines, budgets, and quality.
- Proposal Writing and Cost Estimation: Ability to write compelling proposals and estimate project costs accurately.
- Front End Engineering Design (FEED): Experience leading FEED activities related to structural components.
- Design Coordination and Collaboration:
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: The candidate should excel in coordinating with other disciplines (e.g., architects, electrical engineers) to integrate structural designs seamlessly.
