Job Description
Our client the Land Development Agency (LDA) is a key Government Commercial Semi-State Body that delivers affordable and social housing on State and other lands. It is overseen by an independent board of directors and is funded with €5 billion of equity capital committed by the Government. It is also permitted to borrow up to €1.25bn.
The LDA has commenced construction on various state sourced lands and is currently working on 25 plus direct delivery projects that can deliver over 15,000 homes. It is also delivering affordable housing by working with the private sector on an initiative called Project Tosaigh, which will yield a further 8,000 homes on land provided by housebuilders.
Additionally, the LDA is working on large-scale longer-term strategic areas by master-planning and bringing forward planning applications in locations such as Limerick Colbert Quarter, the Cork Docklands and Sandy Road in Galway.

The Role
The Technical Design Manager role will offer the right candidates an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in the delivery of a wide range of transformative residential and regeneration development projects across the country. The ideal candidate will have a solutions orientated "can-do" approach combined with an underlying relevant technical expertise and extensive experience of the design and delivery of medium and high density residential schemes. They will have strong attention to detail with the ability to think strategically, be commercially astute and have a proven track record of working in cross-functional teams and building relationships with diverse ranges of stakeholders.
Collaborating and working as part of a team of development professionals, the Technical Design Manager will be responsible for supporting implementation of LDA design and standardisation requirements and assisting and advising on design and technical requirements. This will involve working on a portfolio of development projects across all stages of the development life cycle from early concept, acquisition, planning, design, procurement through to delivery and handover.
The role will also have an important focus on leveraging the LDA's scale to proactively identify industry leading design and technical solutions that can be appropriately standardised and implemented across the LDA portfolio. The LDA are uniquely positioned in the housing and development sector as one of the largest agencies who have a long term interest in delivering affordable & sustainable homes. This in turn supports the creation of thriving communities and delivers a positive social impact. The Technical Design Manager role plays an important part in delivering this goal.

Key Responsibilities
- Support and advise on design and technical requirements on a portfolio of development projects across all stages of the development life cycle, supporting implementation of LDA design and standardisation requirements.
- Collaborate with the development team and other internal teams (including construction, cost management, asset management, planning) to develop clear project briefs and design principles for each development.
- Proactively support development optioneering analysis and the recommendation of optimum scheme designs.
- Review, interrogate and challenge all engineered design solutions produced throughout the design and development process to ensure they meet LDA expectations, are coordinated efficient solutions, meet sustainability requirements, explore construction innovation and flexibility. Champion design co-ordination and sustainable design solutions.
- Support the Development Managers with design team service expectations and embedding innovation into the design team culture.
- Proactively identify industry leading design and technical solutions that can be appropriately standardised and implemented across the LDA portfolio. Capture the benefits of learnings gained across the LDA portfolio.
- Streamline and standardise the approach to project development to enable effective and affordable delivery at scale. Champion clear and concise communication of LDA design and technical requirements to external multidisciplinary design teams and contractors.
- Influence and align all stakeholders to concentrate efforts in areas they will drive maximum efficiencies, affordability and deliverability across the portfolio.
- Embed modern methods of construction and design (including BIM) into the pre-planning phase to allow the LDA to lead in the implementation of innovations in construction
- Collaborate with internal and external teams to provide materials, products and systems solutions that meet the agreed design brief, cost and quality.
- Influence and ensure that critical design decisions are fully considered and challenged in a timely manner to ensure delivery of exemplar affordable and sustainable developments.
- Collaborate and build trusting relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders across diverse functions.
- Assist in preparing standardised LDA briefing documents, typology booklets, scopes of services, performance specifications and tender documentation.

Person Specifications / Requirements
- Experienced design professional with at least 10 years' experience in the various stages of the development lifecycle.
- Hold a recognised degree / diploma level qualification in construction / development sector.
- Experience as lead designer / coordinator on large scale residential projects a distinct advantage.
- Experience of implementation and delivery of sustainability objectives and systems in residential developments a distinct advantage.
- Understanding of building fabric performance requirements with the design and technical understanding of heating and ventilation systems and building performance ratings an advantage.
- Excellent relationship management skills (both internal and external) and ability to work within a dynamic team.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail and ability to think strategically and use sound judgement.
- Strong knowledge of the Irish planning, development and construction sector technical codes and regulations.
- Demonstrating commercial acumen and an understanding of commercial viability & cost drivers and the impact on budgets would be a distinct advantage.
- Demonstrate a willingness to take on new responsibilities and the ability to work unsupervised or as part of a team within a well-defined project organisation structure.

Senior Hardware Systems Integration Engineer – Energy

The Role

Reports to: Head of Department of Communication Design
The School of Design within the College comprises of 3 departments:
- Design for Body and Environment (BA Fashion Design, BA Jewellery & Objects, BA Textile & Surface Design and MA Design for Body & Environment).
- Product Design (BA and MA Product Design, BA and MA Interaction Design, MSc Medical Device Design and MA Service Design)
- Communication Design (BA Graphic Design, BA Illustration, BA Moving Image Design and MA Communication Design)
The aim of the School of Design is to create a design culture engaged in ongoing debate on all aspects of design; a culture that thrives on new ideas, new ways of doing things and new areas of exploration. We encourage our students to experiment and take risks in order to carve new aesthetic paths and make technical innovations within, and beyond, their design discipline. We have extensive links with Industry, and students regularly work on live projects within a commercial, social or cultural context. The College seeks to ensure that our design students develop the necessary creative, technical, thinking and interpersonal skills to become highly employable graduates, entrepreneurs and thought leaders.
Salary: Technical Officer Salary Scale €46,311 - €73,443 per annum
Candidates should note that as per Department of Finance guidelines, entry will be at the first point of the salary scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with government pay policy. Candidates should note that different pay and conditions may apply if, immediately prior to appointment, the appointee is a serving civil or public servant.
Hours of Attendance: Working hours will be 35 hours per week (net of rest breaks).
Location: This position is ordinarily based at the NCAD Campus, 100 Thomas Street,
Dublin 8.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical assistance to workshop users, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the techniques and processes involved in the operation of equipment in the – Moving Image Design within the Department of Communication Design
- Demonstrate, as required, techniques and processes in the operation of the various materials and equipment within the Department of Communication Design
- Managing, tracking and maintenance of equipment and studio booking/management.
- Demonstrating use of cameras, audio 7 lighting equipment
- Help students overcome specific technical problems that they encounter.
- Assist in supervising students in the workshop
- Co-operate with and provide supportive assistance to staff and to students – in bringing their conceptual ideas to fruition.
- Support teaching generally and demonstrate as necessary.
- Maintain equipment and where appropriate – construct equipment.
- Stock-take and manage the storage of materials.
- Order, store and record appropriate material stocks.
- Implement and adhere to all Health and Safety regulations at all times.
- Ensure workshop areas are organised to facilitate efficient and safe functioning.
- Engage in appropriate administrative duties particularly regarding Health & Safety, store maintenance and purchasing.
- Undertake any other such appropriate duties, which may be assigned from time to time by their Head of Department.
- Maintain records of Risk Assessments as provided by a suitably qualified person.
Selection Criteria
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.
Mandatory:
- Academic qualification or equivalent relevant experience in the subject area of Communication Design
- An excellent understanding of audio/visual processes and techniques working knowledge of post-production software (Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Premier Pro, Dragonframe, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects)
- The ability to utilise and maintain audio/visual hardware to a professional standard
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- An excellent understanding best practices for ensuring health and safety.
- Good organizational and solution-solving skills.
- Relevant technical qualification or experience in the industry or a third level educational setting
- Experience of working with emerging digital design technologies and in blended learning environments.
- Capacity and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, School andCollege.
- Commitment to CPD and interest in emerging research, technology and techniques
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The Role
As an Electrical Control Systems Design Engineer, you will deliver high-quality electrical control solutions tailored to customer requirements, while supporting the full lifecycle of project implementation.
Working as part of a team and on your own initiative, you will implement electrical power and control circuitry designs for automated machinery, provide electrical control solutions, and support project implementation.
You will work with customers and internal stakeholders to identify and evaluate the electrical system integrity, ensure compliance with standards and safety legislation, and provide technical support.

About You
To be considered as an Electrical Control Systems Design Engineer, you will need:
Experience in electrical control systems design, manufacturing, installation, fault-finding, and commissioning
Experience designing low voltage electrical control panels and systems, including Industry Standard PLCs, Variable Speed Drives, Servo Drives, Digital and Analogue Sensors, Instrumentation, pneumatics, Intrinsically Safe components, and Machine Safety Systems
Experience of working on low voltage electrical control panel layouts, control circuitry, bills of material, and technical documentation
Electrical controls design and drawing experience using AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, WSCAD, or Solidworks Electrical (AutoCAD Electrical experience is an advantage)
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
Strong communication and problem-solving skills
The ability to effectively liaise and work with customers and stakeholders
A Degree in Electrical Engineering, or a senior electrical trade qualification with further training and experience in industrial electrical control systems design, manufacturing, installation, fault-finding and commissioning
