Job Summary:

We are seeking a strategic and technically skilled Systems Engineering Manager to lead our Monitoring and Tools team, based in our ACI Worlwide office, in Limerick . This role is responsible for developing and executing monitoring strategies, managing observability platforms, and overseeing the integration of tools that support infrastructure reliability, performance, and automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of systems engineers focused on monitoring, observability, and tooling.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and implement enterprise-wide monitoring strategies for infrastructure, applications, and services.
  • Oversee the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of tools such as Zabbix, Grafana, Grafana Cloud, PagerDuty, Dynatrace, SolarWinds, JasperReports, IgNio, and more.
  • Oversee the design and integration of engineering tools that support CI/CD, automation, and system diagnostics.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, IT, and application teams to ensure seamless integration of monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Drive automation initiatives to improve system reliability and reduce manual intervention.
  • Establish KPIs and SLAs for monitoring systems and ensure compliance.
  • Manage vendor relationships and evaluate new tools and technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and career development for team members.
  • Implement quality control and performance metrices for monitoring systems.
  • Identify risk in system designs and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of monitoring platforms.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership on system health and performance trends.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems Management or related field (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, architecture and/or Infrastructure experience
  • 2+ years in a leadership role.

  • Strong background in systems engineering, infrastructure monitoring, and automation tools.

As the Manager - Systems Engineering, you will be responsible for managing all systems engineering within the department while performing both development and operational tasks to maintain application assets. You will work with developers, architects, and app teams facilitating operations, development, and testing functions by continuously automating and streamlining the system integration and deployment processes. You will oversee a robust project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule and on budget. You will lead and develop the systems engineering team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree - Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field required; Masters Degree preferred
  • Licenses/Certificates/Designations - Azure Fundamentals, Azure Certified Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), DevOps Engineer Expert, Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) pA working understanding of enterprise networking concepts like CIDR
  • 5 years proven experience as a Cloud Engineer or similar role, with hands-on experience in deploying and managing infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Strong technical foundation in network, storage, and compute cloud services, along with experience in API usage, command line interface, and SDKs for writing applications

The Opportunity

EirGrid's Data Engineering Team is accelerating its Transformation Programme and is looking for a Senior Specialist – Data and Systems Engineering. The successful candidate will be the technical leader of the team delivering real-time and ex-post data to a complex suite of platforms and applications that support both the Power System and wholesale Energy market in Ireland. The successful candidate will shape the future direction of the Data Engineering discipline within EirGrid and oversee the development, maintenance & support, data provision, and data engineering solution design to various stakeholders' industry wide.

The role will see you:

  • Lead the design, development, implementation and continuous improvement of applications and processes to support the IT Strategy and ongoing business needs
  • Be the acknowledged technical leader within the team
  • Support the Team Lead (Lead Data and Systems Engineer) in the definition and management of team members' workload
  • Support, mentor and coach team members in the development of their skills and experience
  • Review, advise on and direct the technical direction of proposed applications & processes, including upgrades to the existing code base and development tools.
  • Represent the team both internally and externally in strategic and technical engagements with IT Architecture, Enterprise Security, industry stakeholders, software vendors, data consumers, our strategic partners etc.
  • Ensure that the Solution Design approach aligns with industry best practices and our IT Strategy,
  • Contribute to the definition of internal standards and procedures, ensuring these are followed and that secure, scalable, enduring solutions are delivered by the team.

About You

  • A minimum of 10 years' experience in software development, and five or more in a technical lead capacity
  • Deep expertise in the areas of data integration, transformation and analysis
  • Extensive experience in the architecture, development and usage of APIs and data platforms for supporting data flow between applications
  • Thorough appreciation of the risks associated with data management - including data handling, classification, data quality, and artificial intelligence.
  • Maintain awareness of and the ability to critically assess new development approaches and technologies, particularly with respect to the operation of National Critical Infrastructure, and make recommendations based on experience and in-depth knowledge of EirGrid's IT strategies and our obligations under regulation and legislation such as the EU AI Act, GDPR etc.
  • Excellent complex problem-solving skills, demonstrating an understanding of inter-dependencies across a complex application landscape
  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality management and regulatory compliance
  • Deep experience in data processing in Oracle and SQLServer environments
  • Software development experience with the following toolset: Oracle PL/SQL, Visual Studio, .NET, C#, ASP.NET, XML, MS Azure Portal

The Role & What You Will Be Doing

  • Support the generation of detailed purchasing specification, aligning to product and process requirements.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather information and insights for accurate generation of Purchase Specification
  • Create and maintain detailed timelines to achieve planned program deliverables
  • Assist in the support and completion of defined documentation deliverables
  • Generate defect reports and associated QMS system administrative actions for fulfilment of deliverables against key program milestones to support wider GDD & DPT actions
  • Engage with functional line team to communicate escalations and key program objectives pertaining to Packaging and Labelling.
  • Attend where necessary both functional line and department related meetings

About Your Skills & Experience
For this role, we're looking for a candidate who has an effective combination of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical field.
  • Strong interest in medical technology, device development and manufacturing processes.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
