FT is seeking to recruit a Principal Engineer to join our Energy team in either the Cork, Dublin or Carlow office. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the growth of our Energy and Planning division, working collaboratively with a team of experienced professionals. This role offers exposure to a wide range of activities within the Energy and Planning sector including (but not limited to) project management, environmental assessments, and preliminary design for renewable energy projects. + Produce substation design feasibility reports, cost estimate, layouts, GA's as well as the preparation of plant specifications that include transformers, switchgear and battery systems.
+ Review designs produced by suppliers and client to ensure designs are technically compliant and in line with current legislation and policies.
+ Ensure designs are delivered in accordance with the contract to the satisfaction of the client and the specifications.
+ Undertake the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for developed HV and EHV projects.
+ Ensure that relevant Health and Safety risks and hazards are identified, made known to the project team and properly managed.
+ Attend site meetings to support any design or requirement change during project build
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.**
+ Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering
+ Experience of small, medium and technically complex new substation, retrofit or network reinforcement projects.
+ Proven experience in HV and EHV substation design (both AIS & GIS), from 132kV up to and including 400kV.
+ Knowledge of engineering standards and technical policies for HV and EHV plant, substations (including earthing and electrical clearances).
+ Exposure to substation cable design and protection and control.
+ Excellent understanding of the H&S and CDM requirements and an ability to undertake the role of 'Designer' and 'Principal Designer' under the CDM regulations.
+ Preferable - Attained / working towards chartered engineer status
+ Preferable - National Grid BP141 HV Plant Authorisaton

+ An understanding of IEC cable standards and CIGRE technical policies, its suite of technical specifications and supporting documentation, and the capability to fulfil a role as a cable expert.
+ Experience of witnessing 3rd party cable activities such as test, installation, transport etc.

As an Overhead Line (OHL) Engineer working within WSP's Energy business, you will be responsible for working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver the power transmission infrastructure that will deliver Net Zero to the UK Energy System. + Design overhead power line systems, including the selection of structures, conductors, and insulators.
+ Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using software tools such as PLS-CADD, AutoCAD and Microstation.

+ Perform technical calculations and analysis to ensure the structural integrity and electrical performance of overhead lines.

+ Prior experience on upgrading work projects such as utilisation of High Temperature Low Sag conductors.
+ Knowledge of conducting galloping studies, EMF and Field Effects Calculation, Wake effect, AC Interference for Gas pipelines would be a plus.
+ The ability to travel to projects occasionally.
+ Preferable - Attained / working towards chartered engineer status
+ Preferable - National Grid BP141 OHL Authorisation

In the role of Senior Engineer working on Overhead Transmission Line projects, you will be responsible for supervising a team of design engineers specialising in Overhead (OHL) Transmission Lines. This team will be working on a variety of projects encompassing overhead transmission lines ranging from 11kV to 400kV.
**A little bit more about your role:**
+ Providing technical evaluations and offering problem-solving solutions to different team members.
+ Prepare written proposals outlining everything stakeholders should know about a project, including the timeline, allocating resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
+ Offer technical guidance and input throughout the project implementation, statutory planning, and participation in Public Consultation events.
+ Responsible for the engineering and design activities of the team related to the overhead line. This includes PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees, developing design criteria, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor blowout, swing angle, damper system recommendations, structure spotting, clearance reports, conductor, and insulator selection, etc.
+ Conducting feasibility studies, performing conductor thermal ratings, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
+ Undertake studies to identify a technically preferred solution / layout to take forward to the Client.
+ Actively taking part in Industry working groups such as CIGRE, IEEE.
**What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:**
+ A bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent technical discipline, preferably Electrical or Power engineering.
+ Experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
