Electrical Engineering Technician Reporting to the Engineering Manager - you will deliver a high-quality electrical maintenance service to production, & be part of a multidisciplined team of Fitters & Electricians delivering maintenance work. Key Responsibilities: Providing both reactive & planned maintenance support to the full site Carry out installations & commissioning of plant/ equipment & trouble shooting of same Carry out basic programming & diagnostic of plant & equipment Contribute to the efficiency of the operation by maximizing uptime of machinery & minimise downtime in production & utility areas Carry out the execution of the preventive maintenance programs Troubleshooting using PLC Programs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, General Electric & Schneider Electric PLCs) Technical support for all the plant facilities (including but not limited to compressed air & refrigeration Support & participate in all environmental, H&S & quality activities Carry out engineering work orders in a timely & safe manner while maintaining adherence to cGMP As part of the Maintenance team, you will need to work with equipment suppliers on new equipment, installations, & modifications Have working knowledge/experience with a "Lock -out Tag-out" programme Adhere to all site policies on Quality, H&S, e.g. clean overalls, clean work boots, hair nets, hearing protection, h& washing, LOTO etc Assist the H&S team in carrying out risk assessments of new & existing machines Ensure H&S training is rolled out to the Maintenance team Closely monitor line, machine performance & improve where possible Fully support the line leaders/ line support i.e., Overtime, shifts cover, phone support & callouts Overseeing contractors on site Provide general maintenance support as designated by supervisors/ manager to include any or all the following areas: process equipment; HVAC equipment; refrigeration; packaging equipment Provide the Eng Dept with the highest levels of support. Analysing plant downtime levels & implementing effective strategies to increase uptime Ensure Engineering Manager & other Managers kept informed of developments within their areas Qualifications/ Experience/ Skills: A relevant third level qualification in Engineering or time-served Electrician or fitter (Electrical/ Mechanical Qualification/ Mechanical Experience) Min 3 years' experience in a maintenance role, planned & reactive maintenance skills Working knowledge & experience of relevant Health, Safety & Environmental legislation Understand Food Safety policies & legislation (BRC & ISO) Excellent written & verbal communication skills Ability to manage time effectively & meet deadlines Strong problem-solving skills, as well as an analytical, decisive approach Exp of a wide range of motor control systems & process temperature controls & pneumatics Exp using a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) Exp of safety systems utilising Isolation / lock-off procedures, risk assessment & permit to work Flexible & adaptable Strong team player with ability to work on own initiative PLC/ PC Control Systems experience There will also be a requirement to be on-call in this role at times. There are two shifts - 6am to 2.30 pm or 2.30 pm to 23.30 with a 10% shift allowance for the later shift. There is a weekly rotation of shifts too. This position requires a highly skilled individual who can maintain and support the complex hardware, software, and laboratory equipment essential for these programmes. The ideal candidate will ensure that both students and academic staff have the necessary technical resources to excel in their studies and research. Key Responsibilities Act as the primary point of contact for technical support requests from staff across all departmental programmes. Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair specialised laboratory equipment, including robotics systems, biomedical devices, industrial controllers, and electronic components. Install, configure, and manage software and hardware relevant to electronic design, simulation, and programming. Provide hands-on technical assistance to students and lecturers during practical sessions, labs, and project work. Assist with the procurement, inventory, and lifecycle management of all technical equipment and components. Ensure all equipment and lab environments comply with safety standards and best practices. Keep detailed records of technical issues, maintenance activities, and system configurations. Stay current with advancements in the fields of electronic engineering, robotics, and cybersecurity to help identify and integrate new technologies into the department's curriculum and research. Candidate Profile The successful candidate will be a technically proficient and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in one or more of the specified fields. They must possess excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Strong communication skills are essential for explaining complex technical concepts to students and collaborating effectively with academic staff. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a proactive approach to maintaining a high-quality, safe, and efficient technical learning environment. Hours of Work: To be on duty for not less than 36.5 hours per week. Hours of work may be allocated between the hours of 8.00am and 10.00pm. Monday to Friday inclusive. No member of the staff will be required to work on more than one night per week as part of the 36.5 hour week. Staff who agree to work additional nights or at weekends (subject to the provisions of the Working-time Act) will be paid overtime at the rate approved from time to time. Salary: Technician Salary Scale €38,803 - €54,884 Annual Leave: 24 days. Annual Leave will be in accordance with arrangements authorised by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science from time to time #SETUCW
