Job Description:
**Job Overview**
We are seeking a seasoned **R&D / Product Development Engineer** with experience in product and process design, process optimization, validation and scale-up. In this role the successful candidate will work with a project team on New Product Design (NPD) opportunities taking products from concept to production. The ideal candidate will possess experience in process development, a good understanding of catheter shaft manufacturing processes, and the ability to work as part of a cross functional team. The successful candidate will report into the R&D/Product Development team and the position will be based in our Medical HQ in Galway.
TE Connectivity's NPD Engineering Teams are responsible for product and process development of minimally invasive catheter shafts from feasibility through to transfer to operations and commercial release; The NPD team engage with customers to understand the user needs and requirements and work with customer to deliver the solution.
**Job Requirements**
+ **Process Development:** Be an integral part of the team tasked with the development of catheter shafts from concept through to process validation and transfer to operations
+ **Process Optimization:** Work with the Technical leaders to continuously evaluate and improve existing processes to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.
+ **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Work closely with PMO, Operations, Quality, and other departments to ensure smooth handoffs and successful process development and implementation.
+ **Customer engagement:** Build a partnership with customers and support technical content during customer calls and visits.
+ **Troubleshooting:** Work with a team to address technical issues during feasibility, development, validation, scale-up and manufacturing, providing solutions to design and process challenges.
+ **Documentation & Compliance:** Prepare detailed documentation in line with project needs, regulatory requirements and industry standards.
+ **Innovation:** Support continuous improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of new technologies, methodologies, and solutions to meet business goals.
**What your background should look like**
**Qualifications**
+ Level 8 Engineering, Science or equivalent degree.
+ 2-3+ years industry experience in a Medical NPD environment.
+ Experience with Lean Six Sigma, Design of Experiments (DOE), or other process optimization methodologies.
**Key Requirements**
+ Demonstrated experience in key catheter shaft manufacturing techniques - Braiding, coiling, reflow, thermal and adhesive bonding at minimum.
+ Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
+ Experience in contributing to FMEA's, verifications and validations for medical device products and processes.
+ Experience with engineering tools such as DOE, SPC, and using Minitab.
+ Working knowledge of biocompatible metal and/or polymer materials.
+ Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ Ability to work with a team and carry out actions in accordance with the project plan and deliver projects through key milestone phases and associated activities.
+ Strong ability to present technical information clearly to the team and management.
+ Occasional availability to participate in limited travelling to meet with customers

The Electrical Engineer II in Cardiac Ablation Solutions (CAS) contributes to the architecture, design, verification, and lifecycle support of complex electrical systems used in cardiac mapping and ablation therapies. This role supports sustaining engineering and technology development efforts, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation in medical devices.
This engineer works with growing independence, contributing technical input across programs, collaborating with cross-functional teams including systems engineering, firmware, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory, and taking ownership of assigned workstreams. + Support electrical design activities for cardiac ablation platforms, including generators, energy delivery systems, sensing and monitoring circuits, and safety-critical subsystems.
+ Contribute to the development and review of electrical architectures, requirements, and design approaches to support RF and pulsed field ablation technologies, ensuring robustness under clinical use conditions.
+ Support trade-off decisions balancing performance, safety, cost, manufacturability, serviceability, and regulatory constraints.
+ Contribute to detailed electrical design activities including high-voltage circuits, power electronics, sensing and monitoring circuits, isolation schemes, grounding strategies, and EMC-robust designs.
+ Support and execute verification and validation activities, ensuring designs meet functional, safety, and reliability requirements across the product lifecycle.
+ Provide technical input into design reviews, hazard analyses, and failure investigations involving electrical subsystems.
+ Support risk management activities related to electrical hazards, energy delivery, insulation, leakage currents, fault detection, and patient return electrode monitoring, with ownership of assigned deliverables.
+ Apply Design for Reliability and Manufacturability principles to identify, reduce, and monitor technical risk in compliance with medical device standards and internal quality systems.
+ Act as a design technical leader across released product engineering, manufacturing, supplier engineering, service, and quality teams.
+ Support sustaining engineering activities including root‑cause analysis of field issues, design changes, component obsolescence, and manufacturing process improvements.
+ Interface with external suppliers and partners to support continuity of supply, technical alignment with system requirements, and coordination of assigned tasks or project activities.
+ Share technical knowledge and collaborate with other engineers to support sound electrical design, documentation, and problem solving.
+ Contribute to engineering standards, design guidelines, and continuous improvement efforts within CAS.
